Goodbye Spaceelevator Games

Last night we hosted a party to say goodbye to the space elevator games. My husband was involved with this for 5 years. I wanted to allow him to do this because he was passionate, driven and if he won the games a big pay out. But he gave up 5 years of his life with his family to achieve this. It was hard for me balance being a mom, teaching and supporting my husband. It also cost a serious amount of money that we really didn't have to spend. Last night my husband was thanking everyone and explaining some of the lessons he had learned through this process. One of the biggest lessons was how to manage and work on a team. He said if he had any advise to give to the kids of tomorrow it would be to join a team and learn how to work together. This was a real struggle for him.

So I wanted to pass this onto my fellow teachers that when we are having kids work collaboratively we are really helping them become better people. This is an important lesson that needs to be shared and continued.

I got the opportunity to do some job shadowing in different fields and all of them were set up in a "team" system. This is definitely a trend for big businesses. No longer to people go and work in a little office or cube do their job and go home. The better paying jobs rely on collaborative efforts to get the most out of talent they have working for them.

So when we are faced with that kid who just can't work with anyone, keep trying and figuring out his/her best learning situation so they can be successful.

  1. Cindy,
Wow - 5 years! I'm sure your husband appreciates your support for all those years. And even though he didn't get the $'s, it sounds like he learned a lot.
