Growth

As we get ready to leave for the holiday break we have been doing all kinds of testing before the kids forget everything we have taught them. I spend most of the year worrying about the lack of perfomance so I am going to celebrate right now and worry again when the new year comes.  Overall we have seen movement!!!!! Wooo HOOO! I am so excited for the incredible growth of some of my kids! But along with these great success I also have some challenges and I am not sure how to take their lack of growth!
SOOO,  I am going to focus on the positive.

What are your successes? What can you celebrate before we have to got back to worrying.

  1. My success will be when I get to read some essays next week that outline how helpful and realisitic some information that was taught and shared in a class that I taught is going to be for some students when they get out on their own..life after high school!! :O) So we'll see, I hope to be surprised and feel some successes! I also have to share that a student made my day the other day when he announced that this class he was taking with me should be a required core class instead of his upper level math, that he never knew how he was going to use it in the future, but my class, yes he understood how it pertained to his future!! (no, harm to math, though...for anyone who teaches math!)

  2. My 5th grade class just finished up Glogs on explorers. The best part was to see one student who doesn't excel in most areas, do one of the best glogs out of the class!

On a personal note, I am very excited to celebrate 2 weeks off WITHOUT any grad classes! This is will be the most time off in almost 2 years!

  3. I am celebrating the success of my mom's very extremely harsh chemo treatment that she has been going through for cancer! They found that her cancer had not spread any where else and where it was in her spine has gotten smaller. She has one more treatment left in january and then she gets some time off chemo to let her body heal.

I will also be celebrating Christmas and may everyone have a Merry Christmas with family and friends!

What a feeling it will be to have time off in between grad classes! Better late then never!

    @Amy

Good news for your mom! It probably couldn't come at a better time when we are supposed to celebrating the goodness of the season with family and friends. Best wishes to her!

  5. Amy - So glad that your mom is doing great! We will definitely keep her in our prayers.

I am also excited to spend the next few weeks away from work and school since it has been non-stop for the past few years. It is hard to believe we are so close to the end of our program...It seems like we just started! I am also celebrating the fact that I am still standing after such an insane semester. I am not sure how I will handle so much "free" time in March when this program is done.

    Happy Holidays!

  6. Personally, I am celebrating the end of a long road called, a masters program. It was certainly challenging and most stressful but yet rewarding when I look back and reflect on the vast knowledge, ideas, programs, tools, and great people I experienced.

Professionally, I am celebrating my seniors who have been with me for two years. My program requires that students research, plan, prepare and teach lesson plans to young children under the direction of the teacher. Not only is this intimidating but it is also done amongst their peers...super intimidating! In January, the seniors will be placed in local elementary schools to assist and present lesson plans on their own without the teachers. They have shown so much growth and I am so proud that they will make great assets to the field in the future.

  7. Wow, so many things to be happy about. I am so glad everyone has things to put in the positive bucket! I know all my free time will be filled with soccer/basketball/girl scouts/boy scouts etc.... But I will love and enjoy this time. I know that childhood is going to fly for us.

@Amy- I am glad there are positive progress for your mom! We will keep her in our thoughts.

I also hope to see/meet some of you in Boston for Graduation! I can't wait.

  8. Yeah, we just put into place some interventions for RTI and they are working really well. I have been trying to assess rapidly before the x-mas break. I'm excited that the students are demonstrating expected learning outcomes. I am worried that they will forget everything over the break, but I will just plan some great review for when they get back. I'm very excited for our break : )
