Learning and the Holidays
Hmmm. The holidays! We have students who have been back for a week and half and still have not recovered from the Thanksgiving break! With a TWO week break coming up how do you keep the kids focused before the holiday and how do you get them back into good learning habits when they get back?

My kids are behaving the same way; although, if they do not pass the semester, they have to repeat it. This is an incentive for most of my students. One thing that I do after Christmas break is go over my syllabus / rules again. I usually have a few new students, but it is a great way to get back into the groove of things. Plus I always end up changing a few things back on the kids I have for the year.
ReplyDeleteHow do we keep the kids focused? No idea. How do I stay focused is a bigger question!! Sometimes I think I am worse than the kids.
ReplyDeleteha ha! Charisse!I am totally there with you! I am so ready to be done with teaching and being a student this time of the year!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the laugh.
The time between Thanksgiving and Winter Break is an exercise in patience and resilience. EVERYONE, teachers and students alike are being pulled in so many directions. Trying to stay "in the moment" with the students in class is the only way that I have been able to stay focused.
ReplyDeleteJon said it perfectly! For me, that is exactly what I do is think of the here and now. If I think too much ahead, that's when I get stressed out ever more so.
ReplyDeleteThis is a topic that I have been thinking a lot about myself. My students have been crazy these last couple weeks. I'm trying not to get to impatient with them. I'm just trying to accomplish what I can. I'm also trying to let them know that we should try to finish up a couple units so that we can start fresh in January. They have been reacting fairly well.
