Physical Therapy

Well I went for my first physical therapy session. My therapist is great. I learned that the knee really only follows the hip and ankle so If I reactivate my big muscles in my leg then I will be able to function without my ACL. I also learned that even just 1 cc of fluid on the knee will affect the muscles and makes your muscles stop working. I have to work on activating my hamstring and big thigh muscle working again. Surgery is still an option but I would like not to have any if possible.

I also found out that even though I am "old" according to my Doc. I still have great flexibility in my hips and hamstrings. This made me feel a little better.

What has made you feel old lately?

  1. What has made me feel old is how I have lost my overall flexibility of my body. I used to be able to move without any question or effort. I can feel the level of flexibility decreasing and it is noticeable the next morning after my exercising. :(

I'm glad to hear that you still have very good flexibility in you hamstrings and hips. That will definitely help your therapy to move quicker.

  2. Today I feel old because my second child turned 18! If that's not enough, my hands feel like I have arthritis after raking leaves.

    Good luck with your PT!

  3. Wow, I didn't know that the other muscles could help so much. What happened to your knee? I'm sure you are not "old". I am not flexible at all, so congrats on that. How to you work on your flexibility? Anyways, I hope the PT helps and that you don't need to get surgery.

  4. Flexibility is simply stretching your muscles, like being able to bend over and touch your toes things like that. Doing the old traditional stretches work great for flexibility.

As for my injury I jumped off a hay bale and tore out my ACL in my knee. It is one of the tendons that crisscrosses in your knee to keep it stable.
